About Mahala "White Feather" Osborne

It is known that Mahala Osborne was born May 29, 1819 in Ohio. She married Daniel Bartlett  in 1841 in Rush County, Indiana. Her father was Ebenezer Osborne and, but it is not clear if her mother was named Fanny or Hannah. Ebenezer was married twice and his first wife was Fanny and his second was Hannah.

Mahala had eight brothers and sisters and it is believed that she was a full-blooded American Indian. It has also been speculated that her parents may have been white. One can only imagine about how she came to live with them and there is much to be gained by trying to locate the descendants of the other Osborne children.

She died Feb 23, 1893 in Coffey County, Kansas and is buried in an unmarked grave at St. John's Cemetery in Leroy.
