Descendants of Garner Bartlett

Notes

220. George W. BARTLETT

He lives next door to his mother and father on the 1920 Floyd Co, VA census.

242. Mable Armona BARTLETT

Sherm Sr spelled her name Mable. I have seen it spelled several different ways but I'm sure he knew the correct way it was spelled.

Mable was working for Montgomery Ward Co. in Jan 1941. Source: envelope addressed to her c/o Montgomery Ward from someone named Scotty. Scotty had very neat handwriting and lived at 119 N. Electric in Alhambra, CA. He was also spent a lot of time at the racetrack (horses that is).

Sherman Walter HAACK

He and wife Mable were living with his parents on the 1930 census. Dolores was not listed but would have been about 3 years old.

He got a Certificate of Apprenticeship from the Union Pacific System at Pocatello, ID on April 2, 1929. He was qualified as a journeyman in the Freight Carmen's craft. It was also listed as the Oregon Short Line Railroad Co. I found a letter to Mable from Sherm dated 7-7-29 (1929) from Silver Bow, MT (mailed from Butte postoffice). He mentions burning his arm. He must have been working for the railroad.

Chronology: He married in March 1927 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. In November of 1927 Dolores is born in Pocatello, Idaho. On Jan 5, 1928 Sherm enters service with the National Guard in Pocatello, Idaho. He gets an honorable discharge on March 1, 1930. In June, July and August of 1929 he is working in Silver Bow, Montana and writes letters to Mable almost every day. He mentions requesting passes to come home to visit, which is most likely from the National Gauard.

In June and July of 1933 he is working in San Francisco, CA and writes letters to Mable and Dolores almost every day. He supposedly returns home, but then in August, September, and October he writes letter to Mable from Los Angeles, California.

Another letter was found dated May 9, 1934 from 310 So. Date Street, in Alhambra L.A., CA from Sherm Sr. to Mable.
There was also a letter postmarked 1936 from Butte, MT and a return address of Silver Bow. Sherm was apparently working there again.

Found a war ration book dated May 7, 1942 that showed his name, address as 194 Corner Ave, height 5 ft 10 inches, 185 pounds, brown eyes, brown hair, and age 34 years.

He got an honorable discharge from the National Guard March 1, 1930.
